Abstract

Objective:This study examines the influence of perspective on moral judgments of equitable empathy to deepen the understanding of how individuals perceive its moral value.Methods:A mixed experimental design was em-ployed,incorporating a 3(perspectives:first-party empathizer,second-party recipient of empathy,third-party bystander)× 4(empathy conditions:empathy for both in-group and out-group,empathy only for in-group,empathy only for out-group,no empathy)factorial structure.Participants provided moral ratings in response to scenario-based tasks to investigate the ef-fect of perspective on moral cognition regarding equitable empathy.Results:Third-party bystanders assigned higher moral ratings to equitable empathy(empathy for both in-group and out-group)compared to other perspectives.Conversely,second-party recipients of empathy gave higher moral ratings to in-group empathy.For first-party empathizers and third-party bystanders,moral ratings for equitable empathy(empathy for both in-group and out-group)were higher than for in-group-only empathy,while no significant differences were observed in the second-party perspective.Conclusion:Perspec-tive influences individuals'moral judgments of equitable empathy,but the moral value of equitable empathy shows a degree of consistency across different perspectives.
