Professor QIU Genxiang's experience in treating pediatric recurrent respiratory tract infections based on Lei's"latent pathogen theory"

Abstract
Based on Lei's"latent pathogen theory",professor QIU Genxiang believes that the fundamen-tal pathogenesis of pediatric recurrent respiratory tract infections(RRTI)lies in congenital deficiencies,ac-quired spleen and stomach dysfunction,and the disruption of the mutual nourishment between congenital and acquired factors.External pathogens invade the body,internal pathogens arise,and these pathogens linger in the organs,triggering recurrent episodes and making the condition difficult to cure.The treatment is divided into the infection phase and the inter-infection phase.During the infection phase,the focus is on the predomi-nance of pathogens.The treatment involves identifying the nature of the latent pathogens and expelling them through targeted methods,guiding the treatment according to the condition.During the inter-infection phase,the focus shifts to deficiency of healthy qi.Depending on the specific deficiencies of the child,Lei's methods of regulating both the defensive and nutritive qi or supplementing qi and raising yang are applied.The aim is to harmonize the defensive and nutritive qi,tonify the kidneys,and elevate yang,thereby improving the child's constitution and reducing the frequency of episodes.Professor QIU emphasizes that the treatment process should be continuous and comprehensive.Treating the symptoms helps to expel external pathogens,while treat-ing the root strengthens the body internally.Both internal and external aspects should be addressed.Addition-ally,maintaining a regular lifestyle and preventing external infections are crucial for enhancing physical fit-ness.A case study is included to illustrate the effectiveness of this approach.关键词
