Research Progress on the Application of Antioxidants in the Cryopreservation of Livestock Sperm

Abstract
Cryopreservation of sperm in livestock is essential for the conservation of germplasm resources,the acceleration of genetic improvement,the improvement of livestock productivity,and assisted reproductive breeding.Despite the many advantages of sperm cryopreservation technology,due to the peculiarities of sperm structure,it is highly susceptible to the physical damage caused by ice crystallization and chemical damage caused by oxidative stress during the freezing and thawing process.Therefore,until now,the supply of high-quality frozen semen for artificial insemination has remained a global challenge.In order to reduce oxidative stress damage to sperm,many studies have reduced active oxidative damage by adding antioxidants,including enzymatic antioxidants and non-enzymatic antioxidants,and confirmed their positive effects on improving sperm quality.In this paper,the mechanism of oxidative stress damage of sperm during cryopreservation and the research progress of different antioxidants on improving the quality of semen during sperm freezing and thawing are introduced in detail,so as to provide new research ideas for improving the quality of frozen semen in livestock.关键词
