The co-prosperity effect of digital village construction:Mechanisms of action and spatial differentiation

Abstract
The construction of digital villages construction as a crucial driver for rural revitalization and common prosperity,as well as a key pathway toward the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.Utilizing panel data from 30 provinces,municipalities,and autonomous regions in China from 2013 to 2022,this study employs a two-way fixed effects model and a spatial Durbin model to empirically analyze the mechanisms and spatial differentiation characteristics of the impact of digital village construction on common prosperity.The findings reveal that:(1)Both digital village construction and the advancement of common prosperity have exhibited sustained and steady growth,with a spatial gradient decreasing from east to central to west regions.(2)Digital village construction contributes to common prosperity by enhancing agricultural production efficiency and promoting off-farm employment among rural residents.(3)The construction of digital villages has a significant positive impact on common prosperity,accompanied by noticeable spatial spillover effects.Specifically,a 1％increase in the level of digital village development leads to a 0.365％rise in local common prosperity and a 0.475％increase in neighboring provinces.(4)The spatial effects of digital village construction on common prosperity vary significantly by region,with stronger impacts observed in the central region compared to the eastern and western regions,and in the northern areas compared to the southern ones.Therefore,it is imperative to strengthen the top-level design of digital village policies,increase investment in underdeveloped areas,and address regional disparities in development.Such efforts will contribute meaningfully to achieving common prosperity for all people.关键词
