Abstract

[Purposes]This paper aims to explore the influence of temperature change on asphalt pavement modulus during construction,guiding compaction quality control.[Methods]By taking the middle surface layer of Buton rock asphalt/styrene butadiene styrene block copolymer(BRA/SBS)composite modified asphalt mixture in the practical project as the research object,a portable falling weight deflectometer(PFWD)was applied to test the top surface modulus of the middle surface layer at different pavement surface temperatures.The variation law of the PFWD modulus with the pavement surface temperature was studied,and the corresponding relationship model was established.The engineering significance of the model characteristic curve was analyzed,and the temperature correction formula of the modulus was proposed.The comparison test of compaction degree and the verification of controlling compaction quality by modulus were carried out.[Findings]The relationship between the top surface PFWD modulus and the pavement surface temperature for the asphalt surface layer is an inverse"S"-shaped curve,which conforms to the master curve model.The determination coefficient reaches 0.901,so the correlation is significant.According to the model,the temperature change during asphalt surface layer construction can be divided into four stages such as optimum compaction,compactability,transition,and open traffic.Both the PFWD modulus after temperature correction and the compaction degree obey lognormal distribution,and the two have good consistency.The modulus control standard at the 20℃reference temperature determined by the control standard of compaction degree is verified by the application in the construction section to achieve the expected requirements of compaction quality control.[Conclusions]The temperature correction model of the master curve for the top surface modulus of the asphalt surface layer can provide the basis for PFWD to be used for compaction quality control during construction and bearing capacity evaluation in the service period.
