Abstract

The wear condition of wheels significantly impacts the safety and operational quality of Electric Multiple Unit(EMU)trains.Excessive cutting during the re-profiling process,aimed at restoring worn wheels to their standard tread profile,remains a critical issue that compromises wheel service life.This paper proposed an economical optimization strategy of train wheel re-profiling that considers the wear characteristics during the running process.First,by using correlation analysis and Gaussian distribution test,the relationship between the tire wear rate model and tire geometric parameters was studied,and wear rate model for wheel geometry parameters was constructed.Consequently,the lowest wear rate points of the wheels on different operating routes were obtained.Then,the re-weighted scaling iterative closest point method was employed to rectify wheel deformation,with priority given to achieving the lowest wear state of the tread following wheel re-profiling.The economic re-profiling of a single wheel was carried out in a self-adaptive manner using various thin rim tread shape re-profiling templates.Finally,an economical optimization model for train wheels re-profiling considering the wear characteristics was constructed to satisfy the safety operation requirements of EMU's wheel diameter difference.The test results indicate a significant relationship between the wear rate of the wheel diameter and both the wheel diameter and rim thickness.When the rim thickness is within the range of 31.5~32 mm,the wear rate of the wheel diameter is low.Therefore,during the wheel re-profiling,it is preferable to restore it to this specific range.The result of economic optimization re-profiling strategy of whole train wheels shows that the total cutting amount of wheel diameter is reduced by 21%as compared to the actual wheel repair workshop.In comparison with the traditional wheel re-profiling method,our economic optimization strategy of train wheel re-profiling considering wear characteristics is more intelligent and conducive to extending the service life of the wheels and reducing the operating cost of the railway.
