Abstract

The samples of cemented aeolian sand reinforced with basalt fiber(CASRBF)were made by adding cement(5%of the dry weight of aeolian sand)and basalt fibers(0 and 0.8%of the dry weight of aeolian sand)into aeolian sand from the Heruo(Hotan-Ruoqiang)railway in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.Cylindrical specimens with a diameter of 39.1 mm and height of 80 mm were made by adopting the hammering compaction method.After standard curing for 28 days,freeze-thaw cyclic test and triaxial cyclic loading test were carried out.The freezing temperature and thawing temperature of the samples were controlled at-20℃and 20℃,respectively.The freezing path was three-way freezing,and the freezing mode was no external make-up water.Sine wave loading was adopted in triaxial cyclic loading test.Dynamic loading frequency was set to 1 Hz,and the number of cyclic loading applications was set to 5 000 times.The dynamic stress-strain hysteretic curves and backbone curves of the samples were investigated.The results show that the backbone curve of CASRBF accords with improved Hardin-Drnevich model.The dynamic elastic modulus(DEM)of the samples decreases exponentially with increasing FTC,while the damping ratio(DR)increases exponentially and the corresponding dynamic stress decreases when the samples reach the specified dynamic strain.Compared with the samples without fiber,the DEM of samples with 0.8%fiber increased by 6.74%,5.52%,4.18%,8.91%,9.65%,respectively.The dynamic stress increased by 18.08%,9.90%,9.75%,22.57%,24.74%when the dynamic strain reached 0.08%,while the DR decreased by 13.9%,8.9%,19.7%,15.9%,22.8%,respectively.These findings could be helpful for engineers to design and construct reinforced aeolian sand as a surface fill layer of railway subgrade bed in seasonal freezing areas.
