Abstract
With the rise of quantitative research methods,the study on Chinese classical garden spaces has gradually shifted from qualitative analysis to quantitative analysis.Space syntax,an effective tool for quantitative analysis,can analyze the relationship between spatial structures and sightline.Taking Jichang Garden as an example,the paper employs the space syntax methods such as the VGA method and axial analysis,selects four parameters of connectivity,integration,depth value,and intelligibility for analysis,and then combines with the classical theories to explore the spatial structure and characteristics of the garden.It is found that the quantitative analysis can both reveal and validate some design techniques in classical garden theories,and demonstrate the complexity of the garden space.Based on the space syntax,the quantitative analysis further confirms the features of Jichang Garden,that is,"relying on the mountainside,a semi-enclosed corridor,and the central water body",as well as its endocentric spatial structure,and also reflects its spatial characteristics,such as"separation yet continuity"and"eroticization before praise".The combination of quantitative methods and classical theories helps us to better understand of the gardening philosophy and layout features of classical Chinese gardens.关键词
