Effect of Ambient Wind on Gap Breakdown Voltage Under Vegetation Fire Conditions

Abstract
Vegetation fires may lead to tripping and shutdown of overhead transmission lines,thus endangering the safe and stable operation of power grids.At present,there are no studies on the effects of ambient wind speed on the breakdown voltage of the conductor-plate gap under the environment of vegetation fire.To address this issue,this paper uses the mountain fire simulation platform to carry out the DC breakdown characteristics of the 4 m conductor-plate gap under the condition of vegetation fire with the change rule of the wind speed and study the effect of the vegetation in the conductor directly under the wire(without offset),the vegetation crib offset by 1 m and the vegetation crib offset by 2 m under the condition of the wind speed on the breakdown voltage of the gap.The results show that when the vegetation crib is directly beneath the conductor,the gap insulation strength reaches its minimum under windless conditions,with the breakdown voltage attaining the lowest value of 374.5 kV.As the wind speed increases,the flame tilts and can't bridge the conductor,causing the breakdown voltage to rise.When the vegetation crib shifts 1 m or 2 m toward the windward direction,both scenarios exhibit similar trends in breakdown voltage variation with the wind speed.With the wind speed increases,the flame gradually bridges to the conductor,leading to a decrease in breakdown voltage,with minimum values of 348.88 kV and 409.07 kV respectively.The distance of vegetation crib movement toward the windward direction shows a positive correlation with the critical wind speed corresponding to the minimum breakdown voltage.However,further increases in the wind speed elongate the arc breakdown path length,resulting in a subsequent rise in breakdown voltage.Since the breakdown voltage of flame gaps is lower than that of pure air gaps,wildfires occurring on both sides of transmission lines are prone to spread under wind forces,reducing gap insulation strength and triggering tripping accidents.关键词
