Abstract

[Objective]The resistance of different chilli varieties to southern blight disease was explored to provide the theoretical basis for breeding and promoting excellent chilli varieties with better resistance to southern blight.[Method]30 chilli varieties were screened for disease resistance.The southern blight pathogen was inoculated on transplanting chilli seedlings,and clustering analysis was performed according to the disease index,the growth and physiological indexes of plant height,stem diameter,chlorophyll and root vigour were measured for each type of chilli,and the response of chilli with different susceptible types to southern blight was analyzed.[Result]Based on the disease indexes,30 chilli varieties were classified into 3 categories,including 3 disease-resistant varieties(Zhuojiao Caomei,Hongtai 666 and Hongtai 668),12 low-susceptible varieties(Qianjiao 8,Layan 11,Xiangla 77,etc.)and 15 highly-susceptible varieties(Xiangla 14,Xiangla 7,Zunla 9,etc.).The disease resistant varieties after infecting had no significant effect on the growth status,the plant height,stem diameter and chlorophyll content showed positive growth trend,while low-susceptible varieties and highly-susceptible varieties occurred the symptoms of withering,rotting in stem base and leaf abscission.The plant height of chilli varieties with resistant to southern blight was significantly and positively correlated with stem diameter,chlorophyll and root length,and was very significantly(P<0.01)and positively correlated with above-ground biomass,underground biomass,average root diameter and root volume.The plant height of chilli varieties with low-susceptible to southern blight disease was very significantly and positively correlated with stem diameter and chlorophyll,and was significantly(P<0.05)and positively correlated with root activity and above-ground biomass.The plant height of chilli varieties with highly-susceptible to southern blight disease was significantly and positively correlated with root length,and was very significantly and positively correlated with root activity,above-ground biomass,underground biomass,average root diameter and root volume.[Conclusion]3 varieties of Hongtai 666,Hongtai 668 and Zhuojiao Caomei are resistant to southern blight,12 varieties of Qianjiao 8,Layan 11,Xiangla 77,etc.are low susceptible to southern blight,and 15 varieties of Xiangla 14,Xiangla 7,Zunla 9,etc.are high susceptible to southern blight.The above-ground phenotype change of different resistant varieties can reflect health status and disease resistance of underground part.By monitoring the growth and physiological variation of above-ground part,the disease resistance can be evaluated effectively,and the control and prevention measures can be taken timely,the disease damage can be reduced,thereby promoting the health development of chilli industry.
