Abstract

[Objective]The effects of grafting on the growth and quality of cut rose were explored to provide a basis for efficient propagation and cultivation management of cut roses.[Method]Using Rosa multiflora var.inermis as the rootstock and eight commercial cut rose cultivars(including Purple Fairy,Aisha,Quicksand,and others)as scions,grafting was performed.The morphological traits,chlorophyll content,dry matter content,and flower stem grades were measured and analyzed for both grafted and cutting-propagated seedlings.[Result]Growth and quality differences were observed between grafted and cutting-propagated seedlings across cultivars.Grafted seedlings of Apple Jack and Explorer exhibited superior morphological traits and chlorophyll content compared to cuttings,demonstrating better comprehensive performance.In contrast,cutting-propagated seedlings of Cream Cup and Eyeliner outperformed grafted ones.For Aisha,Purple Fairy,Quicksand,and Luoshen,no significant differences were observed between grafted and cutting-propagated seedlings.Additionally,grafted seedlings showed no obvious advantages in dry matter allocation or flower stem grades across cultivars.[Conclusion]Based on growth morphology,chlorophyll content,dry matter content,and flower stem grades of eight cut rose cultivars,grafted seedlings of Apple Jack and Explorer demonstrate relatively obvious advantages.These cultivars are recommended for adoption in soilless cultivation systems using grafted seedlings for commercial production.
