Abstract

In order to investigate effect of fruit maturity on yield and quality of Litsea cubeba oil and determine optimal harvesting time for L.cubeba fruits,taking L.cubeba fruits as research materials,gas chromatography(GC)and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)were used to analyze variations in oil yields of L.cu-beba fruits and compositions of L.cubeba oils at different stages from June to September.Results showed that oil yields of fruits from four L.cubeba individual plants increased with increase of fruit maturity and stabilized by September.Contents of limonene and cineole in L.cubeba oils decreased and contents of citral increased with increase of fruit maturity.Based on comprehensive consideration of oil yield and citral content,optimal harvest-ing period for L.cubeba fruits in Guilin,Guangxi was determined to be late August to early September.
