Effect of water flow polishing of the posterior capsule membrane on reducing the breakage rate of the poste-rior capsule membrane

Abstract
Objective To investigate the influence effect of posterior capsule membrane hydrodynamic polishing in ultrasonic emulsification cataract surgery on posterior capsule membrane rupture(PCR),posterior cataract opacification(PCO)and postoperative vision.Methods A retrospective case-control study.111 eyes of patients who underwent ultra-sonoemulsification cataract surgery in the department of ophthalmology of Huaibei Mining General Hospital from 1 January 2023 to 1 December 2023 were selected and randomly grouped,of which 59 eyes underwent posterior capsule membrane aqueous flow polishing(polishing group),and 52 eyes did not implement this treatment(control group).Posterior capsu-lar membrane rupture as well as posterior cataract development and postoperative visual recovery were compared between the two groups.Results The rates of posterior capsule rupture in the aqueous flow polishing group and the control group were 0.0%and 15.38%(P<0.05).6 months after surgery,posterior capsular rupture in polishing group was significantly inferior to control group(P<0.05).Meanwhile,the best corrected visual acuity at 1 day and 1 month postoperatively in the water flow polishing group was significantly better than that in the control group(all P<0.05).Subgroup analysis showed a statistically significant difference in the incidence of posterior capsular rupture between the two groups in the age>60 years group(P<0.05).Conclusions The use of posterior capsule hydrodynamic polishing in ultrasonic emulsification cataract surgery can significantly reduce the incidence of posterior capsule rupture and posterior cataract,which can help in postoperative vision restoration,especially for older patients.关键词
