Abstract

Objective To evaluate keratometry(K)readings obtained with partial coherence interferometry kera-tometer intraocular lens(IOL)Master and a Pentacamin traumatic cataract eyes with corneal scar having cataract surgery,and to compare the predicted and actual refractive outcomes.Methods A retrospective case-control study.30 eyes of 30 traumatic cataract with corneal scar underwent phacoemulsification and IOL implantation or secondary IOL implantation were collected for the study.Keratometer(Km)was measured by IOL master,Holladay equivalent K-reading(EKR)at 1.0 to 7.0 mm of corneal diameters were measured by Scheimpflug imaging(Pentacam),true net power(TNP)and simu-lated K(Sim K)preoperatively.The IOL power was calculated with the SRK/T formula.Statistical analysis of the keratom-etry readings and refractive outcomes were performed with parired t-test.Results There were significant differences be-tween Sim K,TNP and EKR(1.0 to 7.0 mm)by the Pentacam system and Km by the IOL master(P<0.01).The mean prediction errors(ME)and mean absolute prediction errors(MAE)for Km(of IOL master)were(0.24±0.7)D and(0.61±0.38)D,respectively.The lowest ME and MAE were the EKR of 4 mm with respect to(-0.009±0.96)D and(0.51±0.63)D.The second lowest ME was the EKR of 4.5 mm(0.03±0.95)D,and the second lowest MAE was the Km reading(0.61±0.38)D.The highest ME and MAE were the TNP with respect to(-0.99±1.12)D and(1.42±0.97)D.The differ-ences in ME and MAE measured by Pentacam and IOL master were significant statistically(P<0.01).Conclusions The EKR values at 4.0 mm by pentacam may improve the accuracy of IOL calculation in patients with traumatic cataract and corneal scar.
