Abstract

To investigate the effects of mangrove coverage on the growth and feeding habits of black tiger shrimp(Penaeus monodon),three mangrove-aquaculture coupled ponds with mangrove coverage ratios of 4%,22%,and 37%(Pond 1,Pond 2,and Pond 3)were selected.Shrimp body length,body weight,and condition factor were monitored,and quarterly analyses of stomach contents were con-ducted.The results indicated that during the mid-growth phase(May-July),shrimp exhibited rapid growth and high growth rates,but had relatively low condition factors(1.15-1.19).In the late-growth phase(August-November),growth rates declined,but condition factors significantly increased(1.31-1.38).P.monodon adopted an opportunistic omnivorous feeding strategy,primarily consuming bi-valves,benthic algae,organic detritus,shrimps,gastropods,mangrove litter,and unidentifiable food items.Significant seasonal and spatial variations in dietary composition were observed,reflecting a high degree of feeding plasticity.In conclusion,the mangrove-aquaculture coupled system positively influences shrimp growth,with bivalve-associated benthic organisms playing a crucial role.A higher stocking ratio is found to be more conducive to ecologically efficient shrimp farming.
