Abstract

Based on historical climatic data,vegetation cover data and urban heat island data of Shanghai,this study analyzed the spatial and temporal distribution and variation characteristics of eco-climatic indicators in Shanghai from the perspectives of weather and climate,vegetation cover and urban heat islands,using the geographic information system(GIS)spatial analysis and mathematical statistics methods.The results show that from 1961 to 2021,the average annual temperature,the number of high temperature days and the annual precipitation in Shanghai increased significantly with linear trends of 0.41℃,2.3 days and 63.5 mm per decade,respectively,while the annual sunshine duration decreased significantly at a rate of 45.2 hours per decade.The fractional vegetation cover(FVC)increased significantly by 1.15%per decade from 2000 to 2021 in Shanghai,particularly in the central urban area,its surrounding suburbs,southern Qingpu,eastern Chongming and southern Fengxian.The summer urban heat islands in Shanghai were mainly distributed in the central urban area,suburban towns,industrial factories and mines,and dense building areas,and the area decreased significantly at a linear rate of 140.6 km2 per year from 2010 to 2021,while the area of cold islands increased significantly at a rate of 79.4 km2 per year.In general,the characteristics of urban eco-climate in Shanghai were changing for the better,demonstrating significant effects of urban ecological construction.
