Variation Characteristics of Extreme Temperature Indices in the Yellow River Delta Region from 1994 to 2020

Abstract

To better understand the characteristics of changes in extreme temperature indices in the Yellow River Delta region,this study analyzed the daily average temperature,daily maximum temperature,daily minimum temperature and other basic data from five national meteorological stations in Dongying from 1994 to 2020.The change characteristics of sixteen extreme temperature indices were analyzed using linear trend estimation,anomaly analysis,cumulative anomaly,and correlation analysis methods.The results indicate a significant warming trend in the Yellow River Delta region,with the annual average temperature showing an overall upward trend,spring warming being the most obvious.The maximum value of daily maximum temperature(TXx),the maximum value of daily minimum temperature(TNx),hot nights(TR),summer days(SU),warm nights(TN90p),warm days(TX90p),warm duration days(WSDI),crop growth period(GSL)and daily temperature range(DTR)showed increasing trends.Conversely,the minimum value of daily maximum temperature(TXn),the minimum value of daily minimum temperature(TNn),frost days(FD),freezing days(ID),cold nights(TN10p),cold days(TX10p),and cold duration days(CSDI)exhibited declining trends.The warming trend displayed asymmetry between day and night.The direction and magnitude of change trends of the cold and warm indices also exhibited asymmetry,with warm indices showing various degrees of upward trends that exceeded the downward trends observed in cold indices.The extreme temperature indices were also analyzed in relation to the Arctic Oscillation(AO)index,North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO)index,ENSO index,and Pacific/North American(PNA)teleconnection index.Although these relationships were not significant,the extreme cold temperature index showed the strongest negative correlation with AO.
