摘要

Abstract

Cellulose is the most abundant renewable natural polymer in nature.Due to the strong hydrogen-bonding network and hierarchical structure,cellulose is often difficult to dissolve and process,thus its functional applications are highly limited.In recent years,ionic liquids have emerged as novel green solvents,which can promote cellulose dissolution by disrupting its hydrogen bonds,providing a new platform for the development of cellulose-based materials.In this review,we summarized the recent research achievements regarding the application of ionic liquids in various areas,including cellulose extraction,cellulose microspheres,nanocellulose materials,cellulose-based gels,cellulose-based membranes,and cellulose textile fibers.Despite the progress with regards to the use of ionic liquids in developing cellulose-based materials,we are still faced with numerous challenges,such as high cost,recycling difficulties,significant environmental impact,and the need for further improvement of dissolution efficiency and material performance.Future research in this field should be focused on developing cost-effective and environmentally friendly ionic liquids and improving preparation techniques for cellulose-based materials,for the ultimate goal to achieve industrial applications.
