Abstract

Beisantai uplift is located at the transitional zone between the Central Depression and Eastern Uplift in the southeastern margin of Junggar Basin,exhibiting a general north-high-south-low topography,the primary target horizon is the uranous Neogene Shawan Formation.Based on field geological surveys,borehole logging,and integrated well logging,this study investigated the uranium mineralization characteristics and future prospecting directions of Shawan Formation by means of petrographic identification,grain size analysis,chemical analysis,scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and electron probe microanalysis(EPMA).The research achievements include:clastic rocks in Shawan Formation are dominated by lithic sandstone and lithic arkose,with moderate to poor sorting.Probability cumulative curves and C-M diagrams indicate strong hydrodynamic conditions during deposition,characteristic of proximal source rapid transport and accumulation.Mineralized core segments exhibit a weak epigenetic oxidation environment.Both oxidized sandstone and bluish-gray ore-bearing sandstones show Fe³⁺/Fe²⁺ ratios>1,low organic carbon content,and elevated total sulfur in reduced sandstones,suggesting the post-depositional alteration by hydrocarbon-related fluids from deep petroleum systems.Uranium occurs predominantly as coffinite,with minor uranous titanium oxides.Coffinite develops as granular aggregates or massive clusters in intergranular pores,partially filling the dissolution pores or fractures in detrital grains.It also occurs as colloidal or veinlet forms around large colloidal pyrite,displaying replacement or encapsulation relationships.Uranium mineralization in Shawan Formation is closely linked to hydrocarbon activity,whose migration pathways are the unconformity surfaces,fault systems,and secondary fractures and the migration enhances the reducing capacity of sand bodies,promoting uranium enrichment and precipitation.Therefore,future exploration should prioritize areas with hydrocarbon enrichment,fault zones,sand body development,and epigenetic alteration.
