Abstract

To simplify the preparation process,and facilitate industrial-scale production,carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin(CM-β-CD)was prepared via a mechanically activated dry method using β-cyclodextrin(β-CD)and sodium chloroacetate as the raw material.The preparation process was optimized,the structure of CM-β-CD was characterized,and its water-reducing performance was evaluated.The optimal conditions were as follows:the n(C2 H2 ClNaO2)∶n(β-CD)was 4∶1,the mass fraction of NaOH was 20%,the ball milling temperature was 40℃,and the ball milling time was 3 h.Under these conditions,the degree of substitution of CM-β-CD reached 0.72,and the fluidity of the cement paste achieved 237 mm with an addition of the mass fraction of 0.8%CM-β-CD.Compared to CM-β-CD prepared by conventional dry methods,CM-β-CD prepared by the mechanically activated dry method showed superior water-reducing performance.When the mass fraction of CM-β-CD was 0.8%,the water reduction rate in cement mortar was 20.40%,and the compressive and flexural strengths after 28 d of curing were 60.50 and 7.98 MPa,respectively.CM-β-CD is a promising green water-reducing agent for high-performance concrete.
