Monomers and Compound Prescriptions of Traditional Chinese Medicine Intervention in Gut Microbiota and Its Metabolites in the Treatment of T2DM:A Review

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)is an endocrine disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia,accompanied by disturbances in glu-cose,lipid,and protein metabolism due to inadequate insulin secretion and/or function.Western medicine primarily treats T2DM through oral hypoglycemic drugs and personalized regimens involving insulin or glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1)receptor agonists,along with dietary con-trol,appropriate exercise,health education,psychological interventions,blood glucose monitoring,and complication prevention.Western medi-cine has the advantage of strong targeting and significant efficacy in lowering blood glucose in the treatment of T2DM,while Chinese medicine interventions offer unique characteristics in improving patients'quality of life,preventing complications,and reducing side effects.The gut mi-crobiota and its metabolites play an important role in the onset and development of diabetes.Numerous studies have shown that Chinese medi-cine can reverse the imbalance of gut microbiota and its metabolites,improve body metabolism,and alleviate the systemic symptoms of T2DM.Chinese medicine intervention targeting gut microbiota and its metabolites in the personalized treatment of T2DM holds great potential,though current research has not fully elucidated its therapeutic characteristics and mechanisms.This article summarizes the frontier research on Chi-nese medicine intervention in gut microbiota and its metabolites in the treatment of T2DM.Although clinical research is lacking,Chinese med-icines potent in Yiqi Ziyin(益气滋阴),under syndrome differentiation and treatment,can significantly improve clinical symptoms by regula-ting both glucose and lipids.Chinese medicine's intervention in gut microbiota and its metabolites may work through anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects,promoting GLP-1 secretion,reducing islet damage,inhibiting α-glucosidase activity,protecting the intestinal barrier,regula-ting signaling pathways,and improving body metabolism.This offers new insights into the prevention and treatment of T2DM with Chinese medicine.关键词
