Genetic Modification and Biomedical Applications of Genetically Modified Pigs:Technical Potential and Practical Challenges

Abstract
Gene editing technology had demonstrated significant potential in the genetic improvement of pigs and biomedical research.Gene-edited pigs has exhibited good production traits and disease resistance,which could increase breeding income.Due to their closer resemblance to humans in anatomical structure,metabolism,and physiological-biochemical characteristics compared to ro-dents,pigs served as ideal disease models and xenotransplantation organ donors.However,gene-edited pigs also faced multiple challenges,including the need to improve the efficiency and accuracy of gene editing,as well as addressing off-target effects that might lead to unintended genetic alterations.Additionally,divergent regulatory policies across regions pose obstacled to the industrial-ization and commercialization of gene-edited pigs.A comprehensive understanding of the current status and challenges of gene-edit-ed pigs would facilitate their rational development in scientific research and practical applications.关键词
