Wu Shengxian's treatment based on syndrome differentiation of atherosclerosis based on the food Qi entering the stomach theory from Huangdi Neijing

Abstract
Professor Wu Shengxian combines the classic theory of"Food Qi entering the stomach"from Huangdi Neijing and his clinical experience,and classifies atherosclerosis into surgical category of"phlegmatic nodule in the vessels"and treats it by stages.He believes that the etiology and pathogenesis are primarily due to stagnation of liver qi and spleen deficiency,and endogenous phlegm stasis,and subsequently phlegm stasis blocks the heart meridian,transforming fire into toxins,ultimately resulting in qi deficiency and toxin stagnation that deplete lung qi.He emphasises the dynamic evolution of"phlegm,stasis,heat,toxin,and deficiency".The treatment principles involve invigorating the spleen and dispersing stagnated liver qi,and dissipating phlegm and eliminating blood stasis in the early stage;clearing heat and detoxifying in the middle stage;and invigorating vital energy in the later stage.He creates his own formulas or uses classic famous prescriptions to achieve the effects of relieving oppression and masses,stabilising plaques,and healing sore promoting granulation.His theory of"phlegmatic nodule in the vessels"breaks through the boundary of internal injury surgery,adheres to the principle of integrating classic theory with clinical practice and staged treatment,providing new ideas for the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis in traditional Chinese medicine.关键词
