Abstract

This paper explored the thermal runaway characteristics of lithium-ion batteries after low-temperature cycling aging,so as to lay the foundation for further exploration of their related thermal runaway mechanisms.The experiment was carried out to conduct cyclic aging treatment on lithium batteries at different temperatures in a constant temperature chamber,and then subject the resulting aged lithium batteries to heating thermal runaway testing.Finally,the starting time,starting temperature,and maximum temperature of thermal runaway,as well as the voltage changes and percentage of mass loss before and after the thermal runaway process were measured.After comparing the thermal runaway characteristics of lithium-ion batteries under different experimental conditions,it was found that batteries with the same degree of cyclic aging under different low-temperature environments have a lower ambient temperature with a later onset time of thermal runaway and a higher maximum temperature of thermal runaway with a higher onset temperature of thermal runaway,.However,compared with batteries with the same degree of aging at room temperature,the thermal runaway time is generally earlier,and the onset temperature and maximum temperature of thermal runaway are generally lower.This paper experimentally analyzed the thermal runaway characteristics of batteries under different states of charge,and found that the lower the load,the later the onset time of thermal runaway,the higher the onset temperature of thermal runaway,and the lower the maximum temperature of thermal runaway.The research results contribute to the development of the application prospects and improvement of safety performance of lithium-ion batteries at low temperatures.
