Assessment of Post-pandemic Economic Revival in Beijing Based on Nighttime Light Remote Sensing Data

Abstract
The emergence of the new coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)at the end of 2019 has a profound im-pact on human's socio-economic activities,leading to restrictions in production,reduced consumption and disrup-tion of global trade,which in turn lead to significant changes in nighttime light(NTL).In this study,a novel com-posite NTL correction index composed of NTL,enhanced vegetation index(EVI),point of interest(POI)and pop-ulation(POP)data is developed and used to estimate quarterly GDP at the county level in Beijing,China.The purpose of this study is to investigate the economic development status and economic resilience of Beijing before and after the epidemic by constructing the economic recovery framework of Beijing under the pandemic shock.The correlation between the estimated quarterly GDP at the county level of Beijing and the actual quarterly GDP statis-tics is remarkably strong with an average correlation coefficient R2 of 0.790.Regression models are created to ana-lyze the economic development of Beijing's districts by seasonally decomposing the time series of quarterly GDP da-ta.According to these economic development regression models,most districts in Beijing show low economic resist-ance and recoverability during and after the pandemic.Although Beijing's overall economy is gradually recovering,it has not yet returned to the normal level before the pandemic.The results of the study suggest that the NTL data is valuable for analyzing changes in economic dynamics at the district level and assessing the long-term impact of e-mergencies on the disruption of economic activity.关键词
