Abstract
Roberto Esposito's Categorie dell'impolitico serves as a critique of Carl Schmitt's political philosophy. The selection of his critical target is closely tied to the author's unique position at the juncture of historical transitions. From his critique of Anglo-American political science,it is evident that the author lacked sufficient clarity in his self-awareness of his writing intentions, failing to recognize that his theoretical foundations shared more commonalities than differences with his objects of critique. This led to several errors:first,he mistakenly categorized Schmitt's concept of"political theology"as a linear historical perspective;second,he inaccurately reduced Schmitt's notion of"representation"to a suppression of the one over the many, overlooking the complexity of reality in contrast to theory;third, his reliance on the works of Leo Strauss,Eric Voegelin, and Hannah Arendt as"aids"in critiquing Schmitt was based on a misinterpretation of their ideas;and finally, while the author attempted to approach realpolitik from a human rather than a divine perspective,he failed to adequately reflect on his own contemporary context beforehand. This resulted in a conflation of the distinction between theory and reality,as well as a lack of focus in his perspective when observing his era.Esposito's engagement with the political philosophy of the interwar period,as represented by Schmitt,Voegelin, and Arendt, reflects the widespread spiritual crisis of continental intellectuals in the immediate post-Cold War era, which can be seen as a continuation of the"spiritual collapse of Western civilization"during the interwar period.关键词
