Abstract

In order to study the general behavior of the hydrothermal distribution law of anion ex-change membrane electrolyzer(AEMWE)and its mechanism,this paper establishes a three-dimensional two-phase non-isothermal model of a single-channel AEM electrolyzer in COMSOL,and discusses the hydrothermal distribution inside the electrolyzer in the steady state condition by nu-merical simulation method.The results show that the liquid water saturation of the AEM electrolyzer decreases along the inlet direction and from the runner to the catalytic layer,while the electrolyzer temperature increases along the inlet direction and from the pole plate to the anion exchange mem-brane.The performance of the electrolyzer increases with the increase of the operating temperature,but the liquid water saturation of the electrolyzer also decreases significantly,resulting in the limita-tion of the increase of the operating temperature on the improvement of the performance of the elec-trolyzer.Moreover,the high operating temperature will easily cause high localized temperature in the electrolyzer,which will reduce the durability of the electrolyzer.The model provides a guiding direc-tion for the subsequent research on the hydrothermal distribution of AEM electrolyzer.
