Expression of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 in the retina
摘要
Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2(SGLT2)in the retina.Methods C57BL/6 mice were divided into three groups:Control group,Diabetes Mellitus(DM)group,and DM+Canagliflozin(CANA)intervention group.Immunofluorescence staining was used to detect SGLT2 expression in the reti-nas of mice,mouse kidneys,and human retinas.Western blot analysis was performed to evaluate SGLT2 expression in ret-inal tissues.Results Immunofluorescence staining showed no expression of SGLT2 in mouse retinas,and Western blot a-nalysis did not detect specific SGLT2 protein bands in retinal tissues.In mouse kidneys,SGLT2 expression was upregulat-ed in the DM group compared to the Control group,while SGLT2 expression was downregulated in the DM+CANA group compared to both the Control and DM groups.No SGLT2 expression was detected in human retinas by immunofluorescence staining.Conclusion SGLT2 is not expressed in the retina.The protective effect of SGLT2 inhibitors on diabetic retinop-athy(DR)is likely not dependent on direct action on retinal SGLT2 but may result from indirect effects.关键词
