Abstract

Aiming to investigate the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics and variation patterns of extreme precipitation in Northeast Guangxi,this paper examines four indices,including the total annual precipitation,the total extreme precipitation,the annual maximum 1-day precipitation,and the frequency of extreme precipitation,by using the daily precipitation data from 29 meteorological stations in this region from 1962 to 2021 by adopting the methods of inverse distance weighting,linear trend,Mann-Kendall mutation test,and wavelet analysis.The results show that the extreme precipitation in northeast Guangxi from 1962 to 2021 was predominantly concentrated in in specific areas,including Zhaoping County in Hezhou,the northern part of Liuzhou,and the central region of Guilin.All four of extreme precipitation indices showed an increasing trend.Notably,the annual maximum 1-day precipitation,the total amount of extreme precipitation,and the frequency of extreme precipitation exhibited a particularly significant upward trajectory.In terms of abrupt changes,the total amount and frequency of extreme precipitation underwent a notable mutation in 1993.Following this pivotal year,they increased remarkably at rates of 2.39 mm·a-1 and 0.03 d·a-1,respectively.The total annual precipitation experienced significant mutations in 1983 and 2011.In contrast,the annual maximum 1-day precipitation did not show any significant abrupt changes throughout the study period.Wavelet analysis further revealed distinct oscillation cycles for the extreme precipitation indices.Generally,there were oscillation cycles of approximately 35 years and 54 years.For the total amount and frequency of extreme precipitation,four primary cycles were identified.The total annual precipitation exhibited two main cycles,while the annual maximum 1-day precipitation had three main cycles.
