Abstract

Aiming to analyze the bearing characteristics of offshore wind turbine foundations under periodic cyclic loads,this study systematically investigated the horizontal bearing behavior of multibucket jacket foundations in satu-rated sand by combining model tests and finite element methods for various foundation configurations and loading di-rections.The results indicated that the loading angle had minimal influence on the ultimate bearing capacity of the foundation.Under cyclic loads,the cumulative deformation growth rate of the foundation gradually decreased.Addi-tionally,a larger amplitude ratio resulted in a greater cyclic cumulative rotation angle,with the tripod jacket founda-tion exhibiting a slightly larger cumulative rotation angle than the tetrapod jacket foundation.Furthermore,long-peri-od cyclic loads caused the unloading stiffness of the foundation to stabilize at 1.5 to 2 times its unloading stiffness val-ue after the first cycle.The plastic zone for tripod and tetrapod jacket foundations was primarily distributed at the top and front end of the tube skirt,respectively,exhibiting wedge-shaped and spoon-shaped failure modes.By contrast,no through-type failure surface was observed at the bottom of the tube.Under horizontal and moment loading,the ro-tation center of the foundation was located at the junction between the tube base and the mud surface,where soil pressure concentrated near the compression tube,and minimal disturbance was observed in the rear soil.
