Abstract

Under the implementation of the new waste classification policy and the continuous promotion of China's"carbon peak and carbon neutrality"goal,exploring the greenhouse gas emission in the waste classification is of great importance for carrying out carbon emission accounting in the field of solid waste and achieving"carbon peak and carbon neutrality"goal.By simulating the real situation of kitchen waste collection buckets in residential and catering area,in this study the greenhouse gas emission characteristics of kitchen waste during collection phase after new waste classification policy implementation were explored,the total greenhouse gas emission of kitchen waste during collection phase in national scale was estimated,and relevant carbon emission reduction suggestions were put forward.The results showed that the emission of CO2,CH4 and N2O varied seasonally,with the highest emission rate and emission quantity in summer.The greenhouse gas emission of kitchen waste in catering area in summer and autumn was higher than that in residential area,while the reverse trend was observed in spring and winter.It was noteworthy that the CO2 emission of kitchen waste in catering area was 682.23 times higher than N2O emission,but the greenhouse effect of CO2 emissions was only 2.29 times higher than that of N2O emission.Up to now,the annual normalized greenhouse gas emission of kitchen waste in 297 cities implementing waste classification across the country was as high as about 183 240 t CO2eq at the collection phase.The research results can provide a reference for carbon emission accounting during classification and low carbon waste classification implementation.
