Abstract

Bioretention is one of the most widely used techniques in China's sponge city construction.However,there is a lack of systematic research on its greenhouse gas(GHG)emission characteristics.In this study,bioretention systems planted with Iris lactea Pall,Canna indica L.,Iris tectorum Maxim.and Juncus effusus L.were selected as research objects,with a non-vegetated bioretention system as the control group.The study systematically investigated the influence of plant types on GHG emission characteristics,including average cumulative GHG fluxes,changes in global warming potential(GWP),and their impact on stormwater runoff quality and quantity control.The results showed that,under different experimental conditions,Juncus effusus L.had the highest CO2 and N2O emissions,while Canna indica L.had the lowest.The highest CH4 emissions were observed in Iris lactea Pall.,while the non-vegetated group had the lowest emissions,with evidence of soil methane uptake.The ranking of GWP among different plant types was as follows:Juncus effusus L.(1.12 kg·m-2)>non-vegetated(0.99 kg·m-2)>Iris tectorum Maxim.(0.88 kg·m-2)>Iris lactea Pall.(0.74 kg·m-2)>Canna indica L.(0.67 kg·m-2);The ranking of COD removal efficiency was:Canna indica L.(75.56%)>Iris lactea Pall.(68.67%)>non-vegetated(62.56%)>Iris tectorum Maxim.(60.00%)>Juncus effusus L.(41.56%).The average reduction in total stormwater runoff volume across different plant types ranged from approximately 40%-60%;Canna indica L.achieved the highest runoff reduction rate at 66.80%,while Iris lactea Pall.had the lowest at 41.56%.These findings provide valuable data for carbon emission accounting,carbon emission reduction strategies,and the regulation of stormwater runoff quality and quantity in bioretention systems.
