Survey on Health Information Needs and Media Usage Habits Among Residents in Yancheng

Abstract
Objective To understand the needs for health information and media usage habits among residents in Yancheng,and provide the reference for carrying out targeted health communication.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 1 938 residents aged 15-69 years from 7 counties(cities,districts)of Yancheng during September to November 2023,by multi-stage stratified sampling.Results The health information most in demand by residents of Yancheng included knowledge on the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases(68.01%),scientific medical treatment and rational drug use(62.49%),and balanced nutrition and reasonable diet(60.78%).The main ways residents obtained health information were through mobile phones(78.12%),television(51.19%),and communities or medical institutions(45.30%).The primary means of obtaining health information via mobile phones were WeChat(66.91%),short videos(62.68%),and news/information apps(50.99%).The differences in the channels for obtaining health information among residents with different characteristics of gender,household registration,age,education level,occupation,and family income were revealed by the chi-square test and multiple correspondence analysis.Conclusion Residents with different characteristics had varying health information needs and channels for obtaining information.It was necessary to accurately grasp the characteristics of the target audience,use appropriate health communication channels and media,and develop personalized health communication strategies to effectively improve the outcomes of health communication.关键词
