Abstract

Objective To investigate the pathway relationship between emotional behavioral problems,stress perception,and self-harmony among medical students.Methods A survey was conducted among 452 first-year undergraduate medical students at a university in China using the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale,the Strength and Difficulty Questionnaire,and the Self-Consistency and Congruence Scale.Structural equation modeling was performed using Mplus software to test mediating effects.Results There were no significant gender differences in stress perception and self-harmony levels among medical students,but male students had significantly higher total scores in emotional-behavioral problems(P<0.05).Stress perception significantly and positively predicted self-harmony and emotional-behavioral problems(P<0.001),and self-harmony also had a significant positive predictive effect on emotional-behavioral problems(P<0.001).Stress perception directly affected emotional-behavioral problems and indirectly affected them through self-harmony,with the mediating effect accounting for 47.2%of the total effect.Conclusion When stress perception increased,medical students'self-harmony becomes imbalanced,leading to emotional-behavioral problems.To prevent and reduce the occurrence of emotional-behavioral problems,it was necessary to focus on alleviating stress perception and enhancing self-harmony among medical students.
