Abstract

Due to the adsorption swelling effect of rubber powder and the material exchange effect with matrix asphalt,the waste rubber powder modified asphalt(WRMA)can be regarded as a multi-phase composite system.The interaction of each component phase jointly affect the performance of WRMA.To explore the multiphase aging behavior of WRMA during the long-term thermal oxygen ag-ing process,a combination of physical filtration and chemical extraction method was used to perform multiphase separation of the WRMA under different aging times.Then,frequency sweep tests were conducted on the WRMA,70#base asphalt,and the separated asphalt phases.The changes in the high-temperature,fatigue,and low-temperature properties of each asphalt component before and after aging were explored.The results showed that the adsorbed asphalt phase had the lowest complex modulus and the highest phase angle at the same aging time,making it the softest part of the waste rubber pow-der modified asphalt.Due to the protection of the rubber powder,the aging degree of this phase was al-so relatively low.However,the free asphalt phase that was not adsorbed by the rubber powder and con-tained more heavy components showed the earliest G-R parameter surpassing the initial cracking val-ue after 30 hours of long-term aging.The stiffness modulus of the free asphalt phase exceeded 300 MPa after 30 hours of aging at-18 °C,and the creep rate dropped below 0.3 after 30 hours of aging at-12 °C.This phase exhibited the most significant decrease in cracking resistance and stress relaxation abilities,showing the most severe aging in the WRMA.The role of the rubber powder made each as-phalt phase exhibit different high-temperature,fatigue and low-temperature characteristics during the aging process,jointly affecting the performance of the WRMA after aging.In terms of subsequent re-generation,the multiphase aging behavior of WRMA should be considered to achieve multiphase and efficient regeneration.
