Configuration design method for assembly tensegrity structures based on triangular grid reshaping

Abstract
Presently,the construction of large-scale tensegrity structures generally adopts an approach by mechanically assembling existed units along a certain direction,and most of the obtained structures are regular in geometry.However,in the design of curved surface structures with complex configurations,it is difficult to directly determine the assembly mode due to geometrical irregularities,which results in the inability to establish the unit layout and structural topology.To solve this problem,a systematic method for modular assembly of tensegrity structures with complex shapes based on trilateral grid reshaping was proposed.A deformable tensegrity torus was utilized as the assembly unit,and four types of trilateral grid forms were chosen to divide the target surfaces,determining the layout of overall structure as well as the assembly mode.The large-span tensegrity structure was built by node-node connections between units.The self-equilibrium and stability of the assembled structure was verified by a series of assembled tensegrity structures with free-form surface.The results show that the complexity of overall structural configuration,the assembly mode of evacuation or non-evacuation and the grid layouts all have a certain impact on the structural stability,among which the complexity of the structural configuration has the most prominent influence that the more severe the curvature change of the geometric configuration,the lower the structural stability.Further,a spherical assembled tensegrity structure with Kiewitt lattice was provided as example to prove that the proposed method was valid and feasible,which showed that both the assembled tensegrity structures established by the evacuated and non-evacuated grids had acceptable bearing stiffness,and the evacuated assembled structure had a weakening in stiffness.But to a certain extent,reduce the material usage can be reduced.The proposed method makes up for the disadvantages like complicated topology design and single geometric configuration of existing large tensioned monolithic structures,and promotes the application of complex curved tensegrity structures to a certain extent.关键词
