A Multidimensional Examination of the Hopes of Intellectually Disabled Children's Parents:Qualitative Research Based on Ecosystem Theory

Abstract
Guided by ecosystem theory,this study conducted in-depth interviews with 20 parents of children with intellectual disabilities.The findings reveal that parental"hope"manifests as a tripartite construct encompassing rational understanding of their children's current condition,positive beliefs about future survival and development and steadfast commitment to realizing these aspirations.Specifically,such hope is expressed through expectations regarding their children's physical and mental health,self-care abilities,vocational employment,and social interaction.Characterized by multi-dimensionality,dynamism,and heterogeneity,parental hopes operate across interconnected ecological levels:individual(child's potential),micro-system(family dynamics),meso-system(school-community support),and macro-system(policy-cultural factors).These interdependent systems collectively shape the formation and evolution of parental aspirations.This study provides crucial theoretical and practical implications for understanding family needs in intellectual disability contexts.It informs evidence-based support strategies development,advances special education practices,and promotes social equity by highlighting the ecological nature of parental hope formation.The systemic perspective offered contributes to creating more inclusive social policies and intervention programs that address multi-level determinants of family well-being.关键词
