Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of Citalopram and Fluoxetine on levels of serum neuropeptide Y(NPY),brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)and 25-hydroxyvitamin D[25-(OH)D]in patients with depression.Methods A total of 194 patients with depression meeting inclusion and exclusion criteria in the hospital were enrolled be-tween June 2022 and June 2024.According to random number table method,they were divided into Citalopram group(n=97,oral Citalopram Hydrobromide tablets)and Fluoxetine group(n=97,oral Fluoxetine Hydrochloride tablets).All patients were treated for 6 consecutive weeks,and the clinical efficacy of the two groups was observed after treatment.The changes in scores of Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)before treatment and at 1,2,4 and 6 weeks after treatment,and changes in levels of serum NPY,BDNF,25-(OH)D and inflammatory response factors[interleukin-2(IL-2),interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)]before treatment and at 6 weeks after treatment in the two groups were compared.The oc-currence of adverse reactions was recorded.Results There was no significant difference in total response rate of treatment be-tween the two groups(P>0.05).At 1,2,4 and 6 weeks after treatment,HAMD scores were decreased in both groups,which were lower in the Citalopram group than in the Fluoxetine group(P<0.05).After treatment,levels of serum NPY,BDNF and 25-(OH)D were increased,while levels of serum IL-2,IL-6 and TNF-α were decreased in both groups.The levels of serum NPY and BDNF were higher in the Citaloplam group than in the Fluoxetine group,while levels of serum IL-2,IL-6 and TNF-α were lower than those in the Citaloplam group(P<0.05);however,no significant difference was found in the level of serum 25-(OH)D between the two groups(P>0.05).The total incidence of adverse reactions in the Citalopram group was lower than that in the Fluoxetine group[17.53%(17/97)vs.28.90%(29/97),P<0.05].Conclusion Both Citalopram and Fluoxetine can significantly improve levels of serum NPY,BDNF and 25-(OH)D in patients with depression.Compared with Fluoxetine,Citalopram has faster antidepressant effect,which can significantly up-regulate expressions of ser-um NPY and BDNF,and inhibit levels of inflammatory factors.
