Abstract

In response to the diversity of online public opinion evolution,a typological study was conducted from a complexity perspective.Firstly,the connotations of basic concepts such as public opinion,online public opinion,and its evolution were analyzed.We introduce the method of identical-discrepancy-contrary analysis from set pair theory to examine the types of online public opinion evolution forms.By elucidating that the phenomena of polarization,der-ivation,and reversal in the evolution of online public opinion correspond respectively to identity,discrepancy and contrary,we establish a complete classification of evolutionary forms under the analytical dimension.Then,consider-ing directionality,a two-dimensional structural description of online public opinion evolution forms was given by in-troducing the directional dimension,resulting in three categories of six different evolutionary forms,which were for-mally described using a 2 × 3 morphological matrix.Under this two-dimensional structural description,specific ex-planations were provided for bias assimilation,online public opinion structural reversal,horizontal and vertical deri-vation,deepening the sensory and rational understanding of online public opinion evolution forms.Finally,the idea of creating a public opinion morphology was proposed,clarifying the research scope of public opinion morphology dominated by the category,structure,and evolution forms of public opinion.
