Design and performance analysis of a novel type of nine-core and four-mode polarization maintaining fiber for 1.55 μm

Abstract
Given the insufficient transmission capacity of current optical fiber communication systems,a novel type of nine-core and four-LP mode polarization maintaining fiber is designed for 1.55 μm wave-length.Elliptical stress rods and air hole arrays are set around the fiber core to achieve polarization main-taining and reduce inter-core crosstalk.The heterogeneous cores and trenches can reduce inter-core cross-talk and improve the bending resistance characteristics of fibers.The designed fiber has a maximum of 72 independent transmission channels for optical signals.In the C+L band,the effective refractive index dif-ference between polarization modes within each fiber core is greater than 10-4,the effective refractive in-dex difference between adjacent modes is greater than 10-3,the maximum inter-core crosstalk of the fiber is less than-30 dB/100 km,and the bending loss is less than 0.2 dB/km.All of these performances meet the transmission requirements of communication systems,which demonstrates that the fiber has good ap-plication potential.关键词
