Study on suitable ecological sediment discharge in the Yellow River Estuary
摘要
Abstract
Sediment transported from the Yellow River has important ecological significance in shaping and maintaining the estuarine habitat and supplying phosphate in near shore waters.Since the mid-1980s,the sediment transported into the Yellow River Estuary has sharply decreased, which leading to a slowdown of the rate of sedimentation and land forming in coastal area near the current channel, and to continuously erosion and retreat in the coastal area near the abandoned channels owing to the lack of sediment supplement.Shrink-ing wetland has resulted in the decrease of biodiversity and the change in the structure and function of original ecosystem. Most of phosphate into the estuary is in the form of particulate adsorbed by sediment particles, the reduction of sediment discharge has been the main factor in the increase of N/P in coastal waters. In the late 1950s to early 1980s,the phosphate concentration in near shore waters is of about 0.50 μmol/L,which can serve as a suitable reference level. The annual average sediment discharge is of 0.24 billion ton from 2003 to 2006 after the operation of water-sediment regulation since the application of Xiaolangdi Reservoir, which can be suggested as the suitable sediment discharge.Under this condition, the phosphate concentration,phyto-plankton species and biomass and the content of chlorophyll exceeds or approaches the levels in the early 1980s,and it can also roughly maintain the dynamic balance of overall land area in the modern Yellow River Delta.关键词
