Abstract

In the construction of oil and gas pipeline networks,there are a large number of pipelines crossing river projects,here the design burial depth of pipelines is determined by the maximum riverbed erosion depth.The calculation formulas for riverbed erosion can be divided into cohesive soil and non-cohesive sand formulas based on the characteristics of riverbed sediment,and it can also be divided into general erosion and local ero-sion formulas according to the erosion range induced to the water blocking structures,and can be divided into standard formulas and empirical formulas according to the richness of hydrological data.Based on the examples of oil and gas pipeline crossing projects covering most parts of China in the past 20 years,the applicability and limitations of different erosion calculation formulas have been analyzed.It is suggested that in calculating the riverbed scouring of oil and gas pipeline crossing projects using various standard formulas and empirical formu-las,the upstream water and sediment,boundary conditions,and riverbed sediment characteristics of the spe-cific crossing river section should be taken into account,and on-site sediment and hydrological data should be obtained as much as possible for laboratory analysis.By comparing the calculation results,a reasonable and safe scouring depth can be determined.
