Amendment of the Marriage Law,Matching Patterns and Income Disparities Between Spouses:A Study Based on Judicial Interpretation Ⅲ of the Marriage Law

Abstract
The amendments and adjustment of laws such as the Marriage Law especially changes in family property arrangements,will strongly impact the decision-making process of marriage matching and further influence the household income status.Based on the promulgation of the Interpretation Ⅲ of the Marriage Law in 2011,this study examines the trend of income disparity between spouses within families before and after the amendment,and explores the reasons for the changes from the perspective of marriage matching patterns.The findings of the study are as follows:1)After the amendment,the income disparity between spouses in newlywed families decreased compared to that in married households before the amendment.This conclusion remains robust after replacing the explained variables,excluding other policy interference and addressing sample bias.2)The main influencing mechanism is the change in marriage matching patterns,with the trend of"positive matching"in educational levels being a key factor in the narrowing of income disparity between spouses in newlywed families compared to those married before the amendment.3)Heterogeneity analysis results show that this narrowing trend is more pronounced in regions with strong traditional cultural values and lower housing prices.This study provides solid empirical evidence to explain how promulgation of the Interpretation Ⅲ of the Marriage Law has impacted marriage matching concepts,leading to changes in mate selection patterns and the income disparity between spouses.It also offers insight into issues such as delayed marriage and fewer marriages,providing potential solutions.关键词
