Will Digital Economy Participation Promote Upward Intergenerational Income Mobility:Based on Empirical Evidence from Microsurveys of Chinese Households

Absract:With the advancement and innovation of technologies such as artificial intelligence,Internet of Things and blockchain,China's digital economy has developed rapidly.As a new economic form that promotes greater alignment of equity and efficiency,can the digital economy enhance social mobility,especially vertical mobility,as represented by intergenerational income flows?In order to find out the answer to the above questions,this paper uses CFPS micro-data to build the residents'participation index in digital economy,to match the economic and social data of the children and parents.Empirical research such as Probit model,instrumental variable method,and threshold effect model are comprehensively used to explore the impact of digital economy participation on residents'upward intergenerational income mobility and its mechanism.The heterogeneity was analyzed to find that digital economy participation has a significant positive impact on residents'realization of upward intergenerational income mobility.Using the threshold model,we further find that the positive impact of digital economy participation on upward intergenerational income mobility is characterized by increasing marginal effect.In terms of impact mechanism,digital economy participation promotes upward intergenerational income mobility by broadening residents'social networks,which can reduce dependence on and inheritance of parents'social capital,and improving the quality of employment.The results of urban and rural heterogeneity analysis show that digital economy participation is conducive to urban residents to achieve upward intergenerational income mobility,while the promotion effect is not significant for rural residents.Analysis of household heterogeneity shows that participation in the digital economy significantly increases the likelihood of upward intergenerational income mobility for male children,children with less education,and children whose parents work outside the system.The research of this paper provides decision-making reference for the development policy of digital economy,which provides micro-evidence for promoting intergenerational income flow and promoting common prosperity.关键词
