Abstract

Based on the fishery resources survey conducted in the Yangtze River Estuary and its adjacent waters in November 2022,this study analyzed the phytoplankton and zooplankton community structure,species dominance,and biodiversity indices to assess the current water quality conditions.The results showed that 84 species of phyto-plankton were identified from 5 phyla,8 classes,15 orders,and 31 families.Most species belonged to the class Bacillariophyceae(diatoms),with Skeletonema costatum being the dominant species.The Margalef index and Shannon-Wiener index both indicated that the water body was α-medium polluted,while the Pielous index indica-ted that it was oligopolluted or not polluted.The zooplankton survey included copepods,cladocerans,and plank-tonic larvae,with copepods accounting for the highest proportion at 63.64%.The dominant species,in descend-ing order of dominance,were nauplius,Limnoithona sinensis,Diaphanosoma brachyurum,and Sinocalanus sinen-sis.The Margalef index and Shannon-Wiener index both indicated that the water was heavily polluted,while the Pielous index indicated that it was β-medium polluted.Taken together,the combined analysis of both phytoplank-ton and zooplankton indices indicated that the water quality of the Yangtze River Estuary can be classified as medium polluted.
