Decoding the cultural genes and aesthetic characteristics in Jingpo brocade motifs
摘要
Abstract
Jingpo brocade represents a distinctive cultural heritage of the Jingpo ethnic group. Before the 19th century, when the Jingpo people lacked a writing system, both the Munao Zongge festival pillars at ceremonial dance grounds and their brocade textiles served as carriers for recording primitive pictorial scripts. This study employs the Six-Element Theory genetic analysis method to decode the essential elements of Jingpo brocade patterns. It focuses on identifying and extracting cultural genes from these patterns while analyzing their key characteristics.Through this analysis, the aesthetic principles of the Jingpo people are systematically summarized, aiming to identify core cultural genes from the inheritance and evolution of brocade patterns to support the preservation and innovation of this traditional heritage. The research combines documentary analysis and field investigations to systematically categorize collected materials. It cross-references historical records, literary documents, and pattern samples photographed during fieldwork for comprehensive verification.By comparing Jingpo brocade patterns with Dai ethnic brocades from Dehong region and conducting diachronic analyses across historical periods, the study identifies unique creative techniques and decorative features specific to Jingpo textiles.Three key findings are found.First, the patterns demonstrate narrative functions, preserving collective memories, natural observations, and aspirations for future life.Second, while modern innovations continue to emerge, three core genetic elements persist:diamond patterns,×-shaped motifs, and zigzag lines. The diamond element derives from primitive ideograms symbolizing reproduction and livelihood foundations, representing the most culturally distinctive feature.Third,Jingpo patterns emphasize simplified natural representations, prioritizing functional aesthetics, primal artistic styles, ordered freedom, and collective consensus. Identifying core elements like diamond and ×-shaped patterns helps focus cultural communication on ethnic strengths and spiritual essence. This approach prevents the loss of cultural connotations in modern designs while integrating Jingpo brocade genes into contemporary fashion. The research provides theoretical support for inheriting and revitalizing this intangible cultural heritage through design innovation.关键词
