Abstract

Polyamide 6(PA6)fiber has become the second-largest kind of synthetic fiber in the textile industry due to its extraordinary attributes and simple processing characteristics.Aerogels(AE)have high porosity and low thermal conductivity,and they can remarkably enhance the thermal protection effect of fabrics.Thus,the application of AE to comprehensively improve the thermal protection and comfort of clothing is now a research hotspot in related fields.By combining AE with PA6 fibers,aerogel-modified PA6(AE/PA)fibers can be produced and used in the production of clothing fabrics.However,conventional silica aerogels have high brittleness,and if directly added to the PA6 fibers,they can cause the breaking of AE/PA fibers,which may affect production efficiency.Moreover,to ensure the functions of AE/PA6 fibers,a higher amount of aerogel masterbatches must be added,which may cause the aerogel materials to agglomerate during spinning.Consequently,AE/PA6 fibers break during production or during use,thereby affecting the continuity of production or the quality of the fibers.Furthermore,the increase of aerogel materials likely causes the fracture of AE/PA6 fibers on the surface or inside the fibers during stretching,which may affect the mechanical properties of AE/PA6 fibers.In addition,in the production process of AE/PA fibers,changes in linear density are prone to causing breaking of the AE/PA fibers or flying fibers,which may also affect production efficiency and properties of the fibers.Thus,the amount of aerogel masterbatches and linear density have a remarkable influence on the production efficiency and the physical properties of AE/PA6 fibers. This study investigates the potential application of AE in the field of civil chemical fibers by modifying PA6 fibers with AE.The AE/PA fibers were produced through blend spinning,with polyamides as the primary materials and aerogels as a modifier.The physical properties of AE/PA fibers at different proportions of aerogel masterbatches and of different linear densities were studied.The results demonstrated that the incorporation of aerogel masterbatches did not significantly alter the main chain structure or the thermal properties of PA6 fibers.With 5% aerogel masterbatches and a linear density of 150.68 dtex,the breaking strength of AE/PA fibers produced using a circular spinneret orifice increased by 0.35 cN/dtex.For AE/PA fibers produced with a C-shaped spinneret orifice with 5% aerogel masterbatches and a linear density of 150.50 dtex,the breaking strength increased by 0.24 cN/dtex.Adjusting the proportion of aerogel masterbatches and linear density helped mitigate the adverse effects of AE on production efficiency and the physical properties of AE/PA fibers. This study investigates the potential application of AE in the field of civil chemical fibers by modifying PA6 fibers with AE and the result demonstrated that the adverse effects of AE on production efficiency and the physical properties of AE/PA fibers can be mitigated by adjusting the proportion of aerogel masterbatches and linear density.On the basis of the continuous and stable production of AE/PA fibers,the improvement of thermal properties of clothing fabrics with AE/PA fibers can be further studied in subsequent research work.
