Abstract

Xylan was used as the raw material,acrylic acid as the functional monomer,and N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide as the crosslinker to prepare xylan-g-acrylic acid hydrogel via graft polymerization.The effects of pH value,adsorbent dosage,initial concentration of methylene blue,adsorption time,salinity,and regeneration cycles on the adsorption performance of methylene blue were investigated.The results showed that the optimal pH range for the hydrogel to remove methylene blue was 5~10,and the adsorption equilibrium time was approximately 210 min.The hydrogel exhibits excellent adsorption performance for methylene blue,with an adsorption removal rate as high as 97%for moderate to low concentration(≤400 mg/L)methylene blue solutions.The adsorption behavior of the hydrogel towards methylene blue conformed to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model.The maximum adsorption capacity,as calculated from the Langmuir adsorption model,could reach 1 405 mg/g.The xylan-g-acrylic acid hydrogel demonstrated good regeneration and reusability,and it can be used as a biomass adsorbent for the treatment of methylene blue wastewater.
