Abstract

The study aims to investigate the effects of different mixing ratio of silage elephant grass and silage sugarcane tail leaves on the growth performance,serum immune,and biochemical indicators of beef cattle.Twenty-one healthy Limousin beef cattle,aged eight months and with similar body weights,were randomly divided into three groups,each with seven replicates and one beef cattle per replicate.The control group was fed 100%silage sugarcane tail leaves,Group 1 was fed 50%silage elephant grass and 50%silage sugarcane tail leaves,Group 2 was fed 30%silage elephant grass and 70%silage sugarcane tail leaves.The pre-trial period lasted for 10 days,and the formal trial period lasted for 72 days.The results showed that the average daily gain of Group 1 and Group 2 was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).Group 2 had the lowest feed-to-gain ratio.There were no significant differences among the groups in terms of height growth,body length growth,cannon bone circumference growth and chest circumference growth(P>0.05).Compared with the control group,the concentrations of immunoglobulin A(IgA)and immunoglobulin M(IgM)in Group 1 were significantly increased(P<0.05).The concentrations of growth hormone(GH)and insulin-like growth factor(IGF)in Group 1 and Group 2 were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The levels of blood urea nitrogen(BUN),alkaline phosphatase(AKP),alanine aminotransferase(ALT)and aspartate aminotransferase(AST)in Group 1 were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).The results show that the growth performance and immunity of beef cattle can be improved by mixing silage elephant grass with silage sugarcane tail leaves,and 50%silage elephant grass and 50%silage sugarcane tail leaves are suitable.
