Effects of replacing corn silage with Broussonetia papyrifera silage on in vitro rumen fermentation characteristics

Abstract
The study aimed to investigate the effects of replacing corn silage with Broussonetia papyrifera silage on in vitro rumen fermentation characteristics.An in vitro rumen fermentation experiment was conducted using corn silage and Broussonetia papyrifera silage as fermentation substrates.Five groups were set up,with the proportion of Broussonetia papyrifera silage in the fermentation substrate(on a dry matter basis)being 0(BP0 group),25%(BP25 group),50%(BP50 group),75%(BP75 group),and 100%(BP100 group).Each group had three replicates,and fermentation was conducted for 48 hours to measure rumen fermentation parameters.The results showed that as the proportion of Broussonetia papyrifera silage increased,the pH value and ammonia nitrogen(NH3-N)content in the fermentation liquid showed an upward trend.The pH value of the BP100 group was significantly higher than that of the BP0,BP25,and BP50 groups(P<0.05).The NH3-N content of the BP75 and BP100 groups was significantly higher than those of the other groups(P<0.05).The microbial protein(MCP)content of the BP50 group was significantly higher than that of the BP0,BP75,and BP100 groups(P<0.05).As the proportion of Broussonetia papyrifera silage increased,the concentrations of total volatile fatty acids(TVFA),acetic acid(AA),propionic acid(PA),and butyric acid(BA)showed a downward trend(P>0.05).There were no significant differences in the AA/PA ratio among the groups(P>0.05).The cumulative gas production(GP)and organic matter digestibility(OMD)of the BP50 group were significantly higher than those of the other groups(P<0.05).The dry matter degradability(DMD)of the BP25 and BP50 groups was significantly higher than that of the BP75 and BP100 groups(P<0.05).The results show that the fermentation function of rumen can be improved when the Broussonetia papyrifera silage in the fermentation substrate is 50%.关键词
